Hello...My surgery is going to be 1 1/2 hours long. Lumpectomy and lymph node removal...How was your experience with Anesthesia? Did they give you general or Twilight? Was your's Intervienous or Inhaled? A few years ago, I had groin surgery, and was under for 1 hour, and they gave me Twilight. I remember it being intravenous with just oxygen in my nose...is it different with General? Any help with your stories would be greatly mind soothing! Thanks!

Hi Cathy,
Sorry I am just now getting back to you.......
All of my surgeries (11 total) were intervenious general. I don't believe that any of them were Twilight. I did have a problem with #3. Nausia afterwards. I told the surgeon about it and he made sure that I did not have the same Anesthologist the next time. My fourth surgery was 9 1/2 hours long (right mastectomy with Tram Flap reconstruction), It was a rough surgery, but I had no problems with the anesthesia. The only times I have used Twilight were for things like colonoscopies, where the procedure was much shorter.
I found that if I spoke-up and mentioned any and all of my concerns, the doctors were very good at making any adjustments needed.
I personally prefer to be put to sleep (not twilight) for any major surgery. 1 1/2 hours is a pretty long time and I personally would want intervienous general anesthesia. I hope some other ladies come on here and give you their opinions.
When is your surgery scheduled?
I'll be checking here more often for any questions/concerns from you.
Hugs, Ruth
