Our Granddaughter was diagnosed with 4cm cervical cancer 5 months ago, now they did a CT scan and found a spot on her liver. Her Oncologist won't giver her a hysterectomy, just start her on radiation. April is 37 and very upset not knowing why they won't cut out the cancer. Could it have spread to her liver? They said for her to come back in 6 months, they will repeat the CT scan and compare them. Why do i think this so wrong? Poor April wants her uterus OUT! she has heavy periods with pain so bad, ahe can't get out of beds for days. She is trying to find a DR who will do more for her. Thanks for listening. Fran the grandma

Dear Fran,
I totally agree with April........If she has no use for that Uterus (wants no more babies) and has cervical cancer, I'd get the thing yanked out.......and all of the other plumbing too...Good Ridance..........I don't understand why the doctor won't do it....Usually they try to get rid of all the "parts" that could be affected.......Maybe her Oncologist wants to get rid of the spot on her liver before doing a hysterectomy.....
Please tell her to keep trying.
Hugs, Ruth

Dear Fran, April needs to ask her Onc. a lot of questions until she is satisfied with the answers and understands his reasoning. They may be trying to shrink the tumor before they do any surgery... If she is unhappy with this Dr., she really should seek out another one and get a second opinion. I know you're worried for her --- hang in there. I'm keeping her in my prayers. Love and hugs, Mary

Fran,
I totally agree with Mary. Encourage April to seek a second opinion. She will feel much more confident about procedures if she knows there is another physician who agrees with whatever decision is being made. If she thinks she needs a hysterectomy, then someone needs to take the time to talk to her and give her all the facts and options.
I went through that and the second opinion was vital to my health. My hysterectomy actually saved my life.
