For several years, we had a Comfort Care Team. These volunteers showed extra attention to those of our members who were critically ill. The inspiration for our Comfort Care Team came from our dear friend, Leota Simpson, who left this earth in November of 2003, but who will remain in our hearts forever. Leota traveled with us to Camp Bluebird a month before she passed away, and those of us who were privileged to know her will always remember her joy for living. Leota was dancing in her wheelchair, even as she was fighting for her life.
Leota gave us hope in the midst of much pain and suffering. She showed us what being a survivor really means...and for that, we will always be grateful. We dedicated our Comfort Care Team in Lee's memory...and continue to lift up her family in our prayers. Her contagious laughter will be with us forever.
Patti was one of the first members of the Comfort Care Team as well as an Assistant Manager with Friends In Touch. Together with Mary, her passion for computer graphics inspired our Friendship and Memory Quilts. Patti was one of the youngest members of our Comfort Care Team and left behind a husband and 2 beautiful children when she passed away in April of 2004. Her sweet spirit and strong faith gave us the strength to press on even though it was very hard to let her go. We miss her greatly, and have dedicated a page on our site to her memory called Patti's Place.
Helen was a ray of sunshine while here on earth, and a very special member of our Comfort Care Team. Her enthusiasm and courage will never be forgotten. While at Camp Bluebird, she dressed as a LION ANGEL because she represented both bravery and tenderness. Helen was a retired teacher, beloved mother, wife and friend. She left us in May of 2004, but her angel wings will always remain at FIT.
This page is dedicated to all of our Comfort Care Team Angels who graced us with their presence and enriched our lives with their service to others...even while they experienced great suffering and pain.
"The Lord your God will bless you in all your harvest and in all the work of your hands, and your joy will be complete."
