What I've been through with my Cancer
On Dec. 16th 2005 I went for my mamagram & had another appointment with my family doctor about it my sister Belle posted this to my members at that time so they'd know so they'll know & would like to share with you what she posted.
I wanted to give everyone an update on Zanadu. We met with her Doctor today for the Biopsy results. She has a very agressive cancer that has affected her lymph nodes. When I found out the news both Belle & I cried in each others arms also hugged each other too, I was that scared. She will be going to Burlington, VT for a massectomy and will then begin chemo treatments over the course of the next three months. Please continue to keep her in your prayers and send healing energies.
I wanted to give everyone an update regarding my sister's breast cancer. We traveled to the Breast Cancer Center in Burlington, Vermont today for her preliminary appointment and for a second opinion.
At first they were suggesting a lumpectomy since it appeared that the initial surgery got it all. Then after examining her breast they found yet another mass. They did the pin prick to obtain cells of the mass and determined it was suspicious so they also did a punch biopsy. The doc seems to think it is an inflammatory cancer so they are indeed planning on a masectomy. The consideration as of today is to begin chemo treatments first followed by the masectomy and then continue with the chemo and radiation afterward.
The doctor's will meet with the board next Thursday to discuss her case upon receiving her mammogram from our facility here. They will make their determination at that time for the next step in her treatment.
I have to say this about the Burlington Center; they were a wonderful bunch of professionals. They treated her with dignity and the highest of loving care. They held her hand as they spoke to her assuring her that they would be with her the whole way. The nurses gave her a prayer blanket made by a group of women from a prayer circle who shared in its creation. What a wonderful gift! She was so touched it brought tears to her eyes.
We were in the Dr's office from 10:00am until 2:30pm all the while with their undivided attention. I am so very pleased and thankful for centers such as these who devote their lives to those in need.
Had an mri, bone scan & a test to see how the heart beats then the following day I start my Chemo treatment too which was from January- to the latter part of March. So, the 25th is going to be a long day for me which my sister & brother-in-law will be down in Burlington VT. for my treatments & the test comming up too. So we'll be staying in VT.the day before my appointment then the tests, then the Cemo 3 hours each time I go. Will be staying that night too, kinda afraid to come home, crossing the fariy that carrys trucks & cars across the water. then back in NY. It's a three hour drive to there anyways & they think I might get car sick the first day of the treatment, that's why we're staying that night too.
Started with Chemo in Jan. of this year & here's what Belle says about this too. Before my chemo I weighed 265 & while I when I was done with it I lost down to 185. Belle & Gary took me shoping for clothes that would fit me.
Each chemo treatment has been harder and harder on her... with the nausia lasting a bit longer each time. This past Thursday she underwent her 3rd chemo treatment which has really taken its toll on her. Last night she was hospitalized with severe nausia and dehydration. She should only be in for a couple of days just to get her to where she can eat on her own and keep it down. But, you know I kept my head up through it all.
My Sugery was May 11, 2006, & Belle posted the day after:
Sandie's surgery went very well. They removed her left breast and lymph nodes. She now has two drains in these areas for about one week which I get to help drain for her....lmaooo. I get to play nurse for her and I'm really loving it. She's always so quick to offer her love and help to those in need and it's about time I get to return the favor to her.
She had a slight allergic reaction to the morphine they gave her so when I saw her in recovery she was quite puffy and had red blotches on her skin. She was out of it nearly the whole day. Just tore me up I tell ya. I know it was the strength all the prayers and good thoughts that have been sent out for us that helped me to be strong for her. I remember waking up just to have help on going to the restroom then back to bed, it didn't take me long till I was back out again. I was that tired.
We brought her home today where she is resting. She did very well during this ordeal and I'm so very proud of her. Now we have 6 weeks of daily radiation to look forward to. All of which I know is necessary to insure her success in this fight.
Now going through radiation treatments where last week I had a setback on it. I have 5 more left now. Hoping now I start back & finish this so I can finnally heal from this. Still sore yet & I'm clearing up just fine now but eventho I've had pain like I do & tired at times too I'm still going strong. Went to see Dr. James October 22 where he checked me out & he said everything looks good, so, I'm a cancer survivor. If it wasn't for the love & support of the family espially my sister Belle & Gary I wouldn't be where I am today. Also I had an appt. with Dr. Wood whom is taking Dr. Olin's place since she retired & Dr. Wood gave me Tamoxican medicine to take for 5 years. So far so good with it now. My hairs grown back some but still today I'm a canser-survivor &'m proud of it too. If it wasn't for the support from my family & friends rooting for me also the prayers I had from each & eveyone here & prayers from all my groups also Belle & her family here I don't think I'd get by also my mom calling to check on me like she did too. I wore scarfs each day to work untill I had my hair shaped up on Dec. 2, 2006. Everyone thinks it looks great the way it is now. So I got rid of the scarfs which I'm donating it to Burlington along with the wig I had too to other cancer paients whom were in the same predictioment I was without hair too. On Nov. 28, 2006 had an appointment with Dr. Wood who is my doctor in Burlington along with Dr. James. She wants me to see a Physical Therapist about my arm, chest wall. Got a script which says PT Eval.
