Boy am I ever tired...........and what a miserable, wonderful day........I have to give credit to my d-i-l Melissa and all of the ladies (and men) who walked yesterday and today...........The weather was the pitts. Melissa walked 13 miles yesterday and 13 miles today..........What an accomplishment in this weather.
It was a miserable, wonderful, rainy day today....and I got soaked through to the skin......but, not as soaked as my poor Melissa........She looked like a drowned rat....lol...........
I met Marty, Marla Ruth and Layton at the McDonald's in Mt. Airy, MD (about 45 minutes from my house)...and rode into DC with them........We parked the van and walked into where the "finish line" was at the Tidal Basin in Washington, DC.....Melissa's Mom (another Ruth) and step-dad Cary met us there.......A lot of people had already left due to the weather, but, here came Melissa walking up to the finish line....She is a real Trooper...........
I have photos and will post them tomorrow.......too tired tonight. My niece Jewel walked too, but I didn't catch up with her....
They raised $6.2 million dollars, for the CURE, at this Washington, DC Walk...even in the rain..........We stayed for most of the Closing Ceremony, but finally had to give in and take the kids back to the van.........
It was a GREAT event (even with the weather) and I am so very glad I went and SO PROUD of Melissa...........She had been there since 3am on Saturday morning...slept in a tent, in the rain, last night......She was representing ALL OF US SURVIVORS!
I can only imagine how impressive this event would be in good weather.......Standing there watching the Closing Ceremony...I could see the Washington Monument, the FDR Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial........and the Potomac River on the right side, lined with the famous Cherry Trees in the Tidal Basin...WOW, WHAT A SIGHT!
I feel so good tonight, and so tired...........It was a GREAT day. I love you Melissa hun, YOU ARE ONE SPECIAL LADY!!!!!
Hugs,
Ruth
