I was dx June 2, 2000 with breast cancer, infiltrating ductal carcinoma. I had a modifeid radical mastectomy on June 8, 2000 with 22 lymph nodes removed, none were positive for cancer! All my scans I had the day after the mastectomy were clean as well. I did 6 rounds (12 treatments of CMF chemo) and started the reconstruction process in Jan. of 2001 with a reduction and lift on the left breast. I had the tram flap reconstruction March 28 of 2001. I did well with all the surgeries and chemo. Right before returning to work, after being out for 363 days on medical leave I started having terrible pain in my lower back on the left side. I thought this was coming from sleeping in a recliner during the recovery period from the reconstruction, but mentioned the pain to my chemo onco. and she ordered a bone scan for June. I returned to work as planned but still had this terrible pain. I had the bone scan and it showed a hot spot so they did X-Rays and these showed something too, so she had me get a MRI and CT scan which also showed something suspicious so she had me go see the rads onco. which I thought was kinda of weird since I had not yet been dx with any type of mets but I went on and they put me in the system "just in case". Well you know what I thought....they already know this is cancer but I couldn't get them to confirm it without a bone biopsy. Which did confirm the worst - the cancer had returned this time in the SI joint in my pelvis and sacrum. So I was given 18 rads to the hip for this. I was told that I was now considered Stage 4 and that it was treatable but not cureable and that it would come back, they just didn't know when or where. I've been on Femara now since Oct. 2001. I have taken 10 more rads in 2002 for pain control and have had to have a couple of disc in my neck replaced in March of 2003. I'm now an 8 year survivor and stable as of the last scans in Nov. of 2008. I've been a member here at Friends In Touch since March 8, 2001 when I joined looking for others that had the tram flap reconstruction. This has been one of the best things I've ever been a part of. I give God the glory, honor, and praise for all that He has done for me and now I want to help others that are on this journey in life I will be married to the same great husband Aug.18, 31 years and we have 2 beautiful daughters and 3 precious granddaughters Chartity is 9, Caroline who is 3 and Rylan who will be 2 in April 2009.
