we've all had amillion of them and by now can prolly read them ourselves..i had a bone scan last week..and the machine they used is the kind where you can see it scanning you....i saw the hot spots immeditetly...from shoulder to shoulder including clavical area...there was something strange going on in my skull but they retook the picture and decided that its prolly nothing.
today i took a ct test and friday i do a pet...my problem here is..i've never had a bone scan come back hot before. can you have a hot bone scan and a "normal for you" ct and pet?
i've been going back and forward trying to convice myself to get my affairs in order or just let it go...neithre is really easy to do at the moment. the kids understand that i'm different from other mom's but they don't understand the i could die and leave them for good part...and how could they? glo just turned 8 and joy just started part day pre k...bub is in the middle of them...none of them are really the age i feel i could convey the sevrity of the situation too...so i'm going to wait till i get my results on tuesday.
just thought i'd ask if anyone else has had this happen and it turned out to be nothing.

Hi Dara,
I have known of cases where "spots" have shown up on bone density scans and they were nothing.
I know how very scared you are, but I'd hang in there until Tuesday and try not to panic until then......I'm no professional, but I believe it there is anything to worry about it will show up on the PETScan on Friday...A lot of doctor's don't like to do PETScans because EVERYTHING shows up and they sometimes scare us.
We have several ladies here at FIT who have Hot Spots show up on tests all the time but, it's nothing.......Of course, they always keep an eye on them and some are even biopsied.
Glad to hear from you.......Hope all is well otherwise....I can't believe that Glory just turned 8.....I remember when you were pregnant with her and we were all sooooo worried.
Hugs, Ruth
ps....Happy belated Birthday

Hey Dara! I've had a few bone scans these past 9 years. Hot spots could be anything they really can't say for sure without doing a biopsy. I have the CT's for the abdomen, chest and pelvis and they have seen a couple of nodugles(sp) in the lungs but no change since being seen so they I guess are just watching those. I've had 1 PET scan and it showed nothing new either. So like Ruth said, I wouldn't get too much up in the air til I knew more. Praying for you! Can't believe those kids are the ages they are but, they do grow up way too fast! Hugs, Sherrie

thanks sherrie and ruth! i took the standard three test..bone, ct and my pet was done today. i was anxious to know what they said and went by my oncologist office but she was too busy to come and look at them. granted i suppose they ARE busy...but i don't think it would've taken much to just reassure me that what i was looking at was indeed my heart!
everyone keeps saying i'm over reacting but how else am i suppose to react? its like playin that game with one bulluet in the chamber...what if someone forced you to play it..and even tho you didn't want to..you had no choice but to hear them squeeze the trigger only to have nothing come out...eventually you'll start to feel like your odds are stacked against you, right?
well that's how i feel about all these scans i've had over the years...they're bound to show something one of these days...and i think that day has come. hopefully not...but ya never know till ya know.
so i have to wait till tuesday...i don't think i'm going to be very nice or in the best of moods when i DO see her. and i'm not going back after this. i just refuse to be seen someplace where they are too busy to even assure you! alot of people die at this hospital...and i don' know if its cuz its their time or they suck just that badly...but i'm not going to be one of them!
sorry for my tangent...glad to see you ladies are still here keeping things going!

Hey Dara, just needed to comment on your post...was the bone scan like looking at the galaxywhere every once in awhile it looked like a planet had a particularly bright light. I told my Onc that I never wanted to watch one of those screens again, my blood pressure went up on that table everytime I saw the "bright" little critters! I like Sherrie have bone mets and have had some "trouble making starter leisions" on my last scans, but instead of doing the real damage they showed up as scarred over, which my Onc swears is because of the Zometa I take every 8 weeks. Hopefully you'll get someone to sit down and talk to you SOON, how in the world can they expect us to wait days, weeks for these results? Make a list of your questions and take them with you...and you will certainly be in my prayers until we hear back from you! It sure sounds like you have a beautiful family...stay positive, as much as you can, and take joy in them every day! Hugs your way...Jane (Grits)

Thank You Jane! Boy i must'v really been upset when i wrote that post..i don't even remember writing it! i know i was completely beside myself last week...even picked a fight with my honey and didn't really do much cept stay in the bed and wait for him to come..and i guess at some point got on here and went off...i really must apologize..I'm SO sorry!!
i get my results tomorrow..and while i can't say that i'm excited at all about going i CAN say that it will be another full year before i take any more scans. i just can't cope going as often as they say i should.
always thinking of you & never far away

Dara, my thoughts and prayers are with you today as you see the onco. I pray that you'll get some reassuring words from her. I don't understand why they are wanting to do scans more often if nothing is going on. I now only have scans once a year unless of course something is going on. I have yet to have scans other than the mammogram and chest x-ray this year thus far. I see my onco. again the last of Oct. so I'm thinking we'll do scans before the end of the year....I guess I'll just have to wait and see. I would think if you don't have anything going on that once a year would be plenty enough for scans. Thinking of you! Sherrie

Hi Dara, I am hoping and praying that you got nothing but good news from your Onc. at your appt. Hot spots on scans can be arthritis or any number of things. But whatever the results, you just keep on lovin' those precious kids of yours every single day and keep making happy memories with them, ok? You're in my thoughts and prayers.... please check in again and let us know your results. Love, Mary
